Happy Birthday
Frederick Douglass' autobiography truly did inspire me. I think so many people get carried away complaining about the issues in their life that are sometimes smaller than other that they fail to see their potential to be happy. I consider being able to celebrate your birthday a true victory. It signals one more year you have on earth with loved ones and of having life. There are so many things that can happen to you in the blink of an eye and yet here you are celebrating one more year. It is a very cruel thing not to know the exact date in which you came into this world. Its a cruel thing not to know the exact number of years that you have lived on this earth. I believe that part of what identifies you as a person is your age. People are so obsessed with celebrating anniversaries and birthdays that its hard to imagine someone who is not able to share in the same joy. I believe that we do indeed take those small things for granted. They are major milestones in our lives however because they signal a defining triumph in our lives. It is an amazing feeling when you accomplish something great at a young age because then people look up to you or if you have been in something for long years like a marriage. People also mourn or hold dates in which loved ones have passed close to their hearts and remember them on those particular dates. Therefore, knowing when you were born is just as important as the day you pass away. It is a real shame to live and not be able to tell your exact birth day. I just celebrated my 21st birthday Dec 1st and I had been planning for it since my 18th birthday and to have not known my birthday would've been torture. My birthday is a very important day to me as everyone's should be to them.
