Pardoner: definitely bad....but is he also good?

The Pardoner was also pretty interesting. The Pardoner is one of the worst sinners in Chaucer's tales. One of his lines is, "and lo, sirs, thus I preach. And Jesus Christ, that is our souls' leech, So grant you his pardon to receive, For that is best, I will you not deceive", would have anyone to think that he is after forgiveness and is therefore true to his words. Unfortunately, this is just one of his ploys to suck people into his schemes. The fact that he is aware of what's right and what's wrong and uses Jesus Christ's name in order to deceive others makes him one of the worst sinners. Or is this a way of him wanting forgiveness? When he tells the tale of greed and shows how money can be the root of all evil, it gives the sense of him not just out to hurt others but to warn them of evil. One who is completely evil would not try to warn another of self-destruction. Atleast, I don't think so.
