Wordsworth...

I will admit that at first, I had no clue as to what Wordsworth's poem was about. In fact, I began to lose interest as I read along. But after reading it in class, I realized how profound it was and completely out of touch I was. Living in New York City has had both negative and positive effects on me. The negative would be that of not given the opportunity to experience nature the way Wordsworth has. On the other hand, the positive allows me to appreciate nature even more when I do get to go away granting me "life and food for future years" and "tranquil restoration." It is important to have at least something to bring you peace of mind especially when we are part of an environment that has us as pin balls constantly bouncing from one thing to another. His words are absolutely beautiful and touching to say the least. He has a way of digging deep into our minds and building upon an "unremembered pleasure." And the fact that it would mean so much to him (in more ways than one) to pass on this same feeling of lasting pleasure to his sister makes this poem even more heartwarming than it already is.

One of my favorites, "for she can so inform the mind that is within us, so impress with quietness and beauty, and so feed with lofty thoughts that neither evil tongues, rash judgments, nor the sneers of selfish men, nor greetings where no kindness is , nor all the dreary intercourse of daily life, Shall e'er prevail against us, or disturb our cheerful faith, that all which we behold is full of blessings." This is the best gift anyone can receive!
