Learning.
One of the parts in Frederick Douglass' autobiography was when he vowed to himself to learn how to read regardless of his master's reluctance to have his wife teach him. It was very inspiring to me because sometimes their are people who defy our ability to gain a high degree of knowledge and they doubt us but how sweet is proving them wrong. I feel like my whole experience in college has been a giant laugh in the face of those who thought I would not make it. I feel its important to be your own cheerleader when no one else will be. Sometimes you need to keep yourself going and pick your oneself up when you are feeling alone or like you can't finish something. At the end of the day you only have yourself and you truly are indeed trying to succeed for yourself. I think it was a victory for mankind when Douglass taught himself to read and write because even now we find that there are people within the United States who have the opportunity and resources to get good educations and they don't. It truly was an awesome thing to read that he not only taught himself but that he learned to do so in a very eloquent manner. I thank Frederick Douglass for taking all his might and learning how to do so because someone else in his situation would have let it go and not tried to prove those people wrong. He is truly an inspiration.
