Spice of Life
I was very intrigued by a comment that was made about Mrs. Dalloway. She questioned if her decision to marry Richard instead of Peter was indeed the correct choice. Then we spoke about in class how choices that we make can not be undone and that sometimes they are viewed as mistakes. Sometimes we are forced to live with these choices for the rest of our lives. But how is it that our past choices come to be viewed as mistakes? I believe it is our human desire of being in control. We are constantly trying to be on top of things and some people even map their day minute by minute. When we start to feel like things are a mistake its because we realize we only have so much power in our hands. We can not turn back time, press pause or fast forward on our life to seek a preview of whats to come. We do not have super abilities to time travel. This idea reminded me of the movie Click. The guy in the movie has a remote control that allows him to fast forward, pause, stop and rewind his life. But no matter how many times he uses the remote and changes something in the past, the present and future become drastically altered. In the show Heroes, the character Hiro is able to time travel and yet he understands that any change he brings upon any situation can cause major changes in the future. Even if its killing a fly! And so with this in mind, life is mysterious and while others say variety is the spice of life; I say the mystery itself is the spice of life.
