Hamlet, act2
Hamlet started to act crazy and Polonius thinks that he gone crazy for Ophelia. But I think that Hamlet started acting crazy because he don't know if he should really kill his uncle for killing his father. I also think that Hamlet is scared to kill his uncle because at the end of act 2 he made the actors perform how his uncle killed his father. He believes that guilty people watching a play have been so affected by the artistry of the scene that they are driven to confess their crimes out loud. So I think that he wants his uncle to confess his crimes where Hamlet would not have to do a crime like his uncle. Maybe then his uncle will get arrested or killed for his crime by the courts order.

I agree with your comment. When I previously read Hamlet I assumed that he pretended to go crazy until he had proof that his uncle actually murdered his father. But after learning it in class this cannot be the whole truth. Hamlet goes from obedient son, ready to take revenge immediately after his father's ghost tells him to, to a "crazy person." What happened from his moment of inspiration to him delaying his murder and needing proof?
I do think that something happened to Hamlet because he becomes a tragic character after killing Polonius accidently and not really caring that much. In short I think there is a much deeper problem that needs to be solved. Hamlet is not consistent. He goes from revenge seeker - to crazy - to needing proof in order to kill his uncle - to killing an innocent man and not caring that much. Whether he really goes crazy or not, his actions need to be studied more carefully to understand his erratic behavior.
