I think that Chaucer, in the beginning of the prologue is writing in a way that the church at that time wouldnt really have a say about it. Kinda like sugar coating his thoughts. It is interesting though, how he uses words to paint his images

I agree with you, such as we talked about in class today. It is important to consider the time and social context within which Chaucer is writing this. Honestly, I didn't think about the sexual content involved within the first stanza until today. It's interesting the many places you can go with literature!

I was fascinated with the same thing. I think it would've been highly scandalous. Though if we didn't notice the sexual innuendo in the first reading, it makes me wonder, did everyone back then notice it right away when they read it? or did someone eventually have to point it out to them?
