The Pardoner's Tale

From the beginning, Chaucer begins his novel with each tale consisting of corrupt characters. I liked the Pardoner's tale and how the men who plotted against one another (friends, no less) wanted to be rich. I believe that they each got what they deserved. They had all been drunk and plotted to kill one another. They could have split the money and stayed alive. The Pardoner is a fake and the relics aren't real. He is corrupt and cruel. He would take money from a widow and her starving family than give up his own goods. I was surprised to read that he is actually proud of his corruptness. What I find even funnier is the fact that he had already admitted to the others that his relics are not real, and yet, he still asks for money from others to see them. All these are faults he displays. I agree with the saying "Greed is the root of evil". This describes both the Pardoner and the characters in his tale.

I also agree with "greed is the root of evil." People will do horrible things just to get what they want even if it means killing. We saw the 2 men that were plotting to kill the younger man would have killed him just so that they can get his share of the money and become rich. Being greedy is a horrible trait that can cause people do act in ways they normally wouldn't.
