the pardoner's tale
in my opinion, the pardoner is one of the more real characters in which he is trying to persuade the audience that he is out for one thing, when infact, he is the exact opposite. unfortunately, we find people of that nature more now than ever. people walk around preaching different things, when in their own homes, they follow none. the pardoner is just saying what he thinks people want to hear and what gets him the best response, and by doing so, keeps his wallet full. he is 100% immoral and even cruel in what he does, basically stealing money from those who barely can afford it to stash as his own, but unfortunately, those people do exist nowadays!

I agree with you!! Perhaps that is Chaucer's goal when writing the Pardoner. He wants us to practice what we preach. Just as we find the inconsistencies in the Pardoner's story puzzling, so to an outsider might find all the practices of our daily lives puzzling. We preach certain values and beliefs and then practice our own "moral codes" at home. I really enjoyed your analysis of the Pardoner's story.
I agree with this post. These days no knows who is real and who isnt. Some people will tell you how to behave when in fact behind closed doors they behave immoraly. Parents will try and set an example for their children and tell them what the right thing to do is but they wont do the right thing. Its hard these days to be a good person because there are so many obstacles and bad examples for us to follow. I guess we have to just find the truth in ourselves and in other around us. We must find people who are truthful and real and we must follow in their footsteps!
