This novel had so many mysteries. When I first found out all the secrets about Magwitch, Estella, Compeyson and Miss Havisham, I was intrigued. It seems like Magwitch "took" Compeyson from Miss Havisham before Compeyson turned on him. In return, I guess Estella was brought to Miss Havisham and was taken away from Magwitch.
Although, Pip does not become a gentelman with the money, he does indeed become a gentelman through his behavior towards Magwitch. In the end of the novel, he treats him with respect and tries to help him escape. I think that in this way, Pip is returning the favor to Magwitch for being his benefactor.
Another important factor is that at the end of the novel, Joe is the one who comes to take care of Pip. He nurses Pip through his illness. Biddy teaches Joe how toread and write. It seems like he wants to be someone who Pip is not ashamed to call family, since Joe is all he's got. In the end, family is all you've got!
