I found today's class really interesting. Its strange how things in the book turn out. I never would have associated Magwitch with being Pip's "father". But now as I look back at how Pip had all these repressed memories of his childhood buried inside, Magwitch was really like his father. It is really ironic how they met at his parent's graves. Magwitch is the reason Pip was able to be a "gentleman".
Why wouldnt you thank someone for giving you everything you've ever dreamed of?
And Pip, if you were already at home, why wouldnt you go visit your family?

Well, consider Pip's young life: It's not pretty at all. First of all, his family basically neglected Pip as one more member. And Magwitch, his father? A convict? I am not saying Magwitch is a bad person and who does not deserve to be treated with respect as a person. But I can imagine Pip asking himself, then where were you when I was treated like garbage, especially with my sister? I am sure Pip needed someone to talk to, to cry with him if necessary? It's really chocking to find out the truth right now, especially when Pip is going through a stage when he is defining himself and his identity. It's a lot to deal with.
