Frederick Douglass

The narrative really opened up my eyes about Douglass and the criticisms he received in regards to whether or not he was truly a slave. It also somewhat puts into perspective of how some African-Americans are viewed today. I can understand the reasoning behind their assessments of Douglass. The fact that slaves around that time were not allowed to learn how to read and therefore could not write understandably brought up questions of how Douglass was able to not only read but write an entire book. Nevertheless, he still endured the hardships of slavery.
Today, there are some African-Americans that look at others of their same race as not understanding the true struggle of Black people today just because they have become professionals and are well respected and accepted by others from society. These African-Americans are looked at as having it "easier" than other African-Americans and therefore lack the support of others of their race.
