Pip's Flight Reaction
Pip’s reaction to Estella’s snobbery is admiration. A general reaction would be disgust. His unnatural reaction and obsession with Estella is just one example of his flighty attitude. Pip goes from one “expectation” to another. He does not know how to combine his family he left at home with his “becoming a gentleman.” His obsession with Estella and his passiveness toward Joe and Biddy (who imbued him with the only love and foundations that he ever had) stem perhaps from Pip being an orphan. He lost his family and his sister never wanted him. He lacks a sense of belonging and thinks by becoming a gentleman and marrying Estella he can create a completely new life.

Its weird but true. Most of the times, the snobs are the people we admire. The popular girls in schools are always the ones that everyone tries to look, act and dress like.
I agree, when a person leaves someone, or something behind, they tend to forget about the people who "made" them who they are. Sometimes it just really sucks.
