T.S. Elliot
The lack of structure and switching of the speakers in The Wasteland was confusing and a bit hard to understand. When we took it apart in class today I had a better understanding of what Elliot was trying to say. The abrupt juxtapositions were interesting with the way Elliot discusses the lack and excess of water as well as the three common recurring themes -water, rocks/stones and an unreal city. It was interesting to read about the different quotes and references made to other authors in other works as well.

The fact that Elliot referenced so many other artists is a tribute to his intelligence. Overall, though, I didn't like his poem. I understand the fragments and broken images and parts in the poem stands as a testament to a post WWI era, but I feel like there could've been another way to cathartically release those emotions. Unless the poet's method is purposefully done to describe his own choppy feelings, in which this poem would be more private than people think.
