"making it"

I think that Great Expectations is the epitome of a "making it" story. Pip comes from literally nothing and his life turns around and he becomes a gentleman in London. I think that he has a lot to learn about sticking by those who have been there for you, love you, and supported you. As soon as Pip reaches the status that he thinks is the best he forgets about his family and pays no attention to the people that care about him. It is important to remember those that have helped you along the way even if they dont end up the same way as you do. He comes to regret how he treated Joe and I think that this is noble of him to admit it.

I agree!! I think the definition of a "makin it" story should include keeping ones ties and remembering and being grateful for all those that helped you get where you are. I think Pip does have a lot to learn. One of the characters Pip neglects to recognize is Biddy. I feel bad forher. She really helped Pip become more educated and Pip neglects to realize the value of Biddy as a true and genuine friend.
