The Key to Freedom

Frederick Douglass did the invincible. He took the life he was given and accepted the challenge to improve. He used his owners “gift” to give hope and important testimony to the world. His gift of speech draws the reader. He speaks with subdued feeling yet expresses his points. The owners knew the key to their slave’s freedom: literacy and education. They therefore kept this from them. They took their slaves identities and treated them like animals. Douglass uses this power of freedom to turn his fellow friends and family into people and get the recognition they deserve.
