Estella

Having read this story before (though honestly not really liking it) I have always found interest in Estella's character. Raised by Miss Havisham, Estella grows up learning to be manipulative, cold-hearted, and stoic.

If not for Miss Havisham, I think her and Pip wouldve had an excellent life together. Dicken uses Estella as a message to the readers, trying to say that class doesnt necessarily equal happiness. To me, Estelle is the perfect example of that. She grows up with Miss Havisham, but ends up being unhappy and marries a cruel man. If she lived with someone like Joe instead, poor but honest and kind, she would have been a much more fulfilled and happy woman.

In the end, I like Estelle because she comes off throughout the book as someone who questions the way she has been brought up, always questioning who she really is inside without all the scorned knowledge of living with Miss Havisham. To question oneself, I think, is to be human, and to have humanity.
