Baudelaire

I surprisingly found Baudelaire’s To the Reader, very interesting. It was the most thought-provoking poems to me. The message he is trying to send is a very powerful one and he does it in a very aggressive way. His “in your face attitude” is what I think I liked about it most, especially because this is a very relevant issue. I do believe Ennui represents laziness and apathy- as we discussed in class. What Baudelaire is trying to say is that though we show we care, deep down inside we really do not have the drive to do or say as we plan. This lack of will and apathy to issues around us will destroy the world. It takes leaders and believers to make something happen and if you spend your days dreaming and puffing your “water- pie” the world is going to pass you by.
