Hamlet & Ophelia.

I still can't believe how 'cold' people around Hamlet and Ophelia are! When their fathers died, all people said to them was, "oh poor Hamlet or poor Ophelia." When people loose someone so important to them, they need someone to talk to them and not feel pity for them and leave them alone. It is true that people need their space, but I also feel both Hamlet and Ophelia were ignored and thus turned to acts of maddness in order to releive some of the pain they were carrying on the inside. I could actually feel the pain from which Ophelia was singing. Maybe it is because I have been through that myself and would have liked others, at least people I expected, to listen to me a little more. I hope Hamlet opens the eyes and ears to all of us about the world and people around us.

I agree that no one really paid any attention to the pain that Hamlet and Ophelia were going through. I think that if the people around them comforted them instead of telling them to get over their grief then maye they wouldnt have gone mad. Getting over a death is a slow process and I think that the only way it can be done is through time and the support of those around you which Ophelia and Hamlet didnt have.

Yes, I agree that the people in Hamlet are very cold. Many characters in the play are very self-centered and do not realize the pain of others. Sadly, people in the world are often like these characters. However, I also believe that a play like this does have the power to open your eyes and maybe teach others to be more sympathetic to the pain of others.

Shakespearean plays generally do not portray characters as sympathetic but moreso deceitful and insensitive, always looking for opportunity even if it means sacrificing other peoples pain. That is the art of the play. The tragedy in the loss of humanity. I agree that there was no care and sympathy for Ophelia and Hamlet's situations but it wouldnt be Shakespeare if that were the case.
