Great Expectations

After reading the first few chapters of the book I feel really bad for Pip. He is in a world that he doesnt want to be in, with no parents, and nothing to look forward to in life. He is constantly put down by everyone around him. Pip has dreams of being a gentleman but those are also shattered when he learns he is going to be a blacksmith like Joe. Being that he is an orphan he has no identity and is trying to find out who he is. He is possessed by a strong feeling of guilt when he helps the convict. I think that he does help the covict so that he feels like he has a purpose in life and that someone needs him.

Yes, I also feel really bad for Pip. His own sister resents him and would rather he be dead than sacrifice to take care of him. She made the choice to take care of him, and then she ends up regretting it, and puts it on his shoulders. A young child should not have to deal with so much difficulty.

i also feel like hes helping the convict as a way to make him feel important in life, as he has nothing else that keeps him motivated in life!

I don't think that nothing else is motivating him... I just think that by helping the convict he feels better about himself and feels that he is doing a good deed. Also the convict threatened to kill him, so he's scared he has no choice. Poor Pip.

i feel really bad for Pip, he lives in a life wit no parents an orphan to his only sister who show him no love. i really got upset when his sister told him that she wish that she never take him in as a baby and wish he died with his other brothers. that was such a low blow that i felt the pain that Pip would have felt after hearing that from his only family member. i would have really felt like i wish i died with my brothers as well.
