Self-Reliance Essay.
What an inspiration! With all of the school work that I have to do, this essay made me feel so much better about my potential as a person. I loved it when Emerson (1841) said "Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string" (p.2). We sometimes forget to that, as much as we may say it to others, and I think we are more capable of thinking and doing things than we can imagine. There is good poem by Nelson Mandela that says that we are afraid of our own greatness as human beings. We get so stuck with following norms and rules in society that we don't really pay that much attention to our real take on things, which I'd understand perfectly. We are always doing something if not for ourselves, it's for others including school, work, family, friends, etc. I enjoyed reading this essay and I can't wait to discuss it in class.

I agree with both of you. We often forget ourselves and our life turns into a cycle of doing things for others and forgetting why.
